Chapter 14, Page 24

Hey everyone! So I know some of you have seen the Upgrade trailer. Yes, the premise is a lot like this comic's, and there's even a scene in the trailer that, to me, looks a lot like the big scene from chapter 13. (There are differences between the scenes, but the main beats and purpose of the scenes are similar.)

That said, a friend of mine helped me look into pre-production times for the movie, and it really looks like we sort of just started these projects at about the same time. The timing for when they finished it, as well, suggests the couldn't have had time to lift that scene from me.

While I had my character Terry since elementary school (6th grade, about 9 years old?) and a lot of the story figured out years before the comic started, that doesn't really do me any good because I didn't put the comic online until 2013. The comic is loosely outlined from start to finish, but most scenes are still not fully written out and only in my head.

I won't be changing any of the comic just because of a movie, and I really doubt the movie is going in the same direction I am ultimately. (It looks like a generic action movie, which obviously isn't what I'm doing.) It IS frustrating for me, because now it looks like I may have copied how my AI works. At least I got chapter 13 out before this all happened, so I don't feel obligated to rewrite it.

Anyway, I'm mostly writing this to say, please don't discuss the trailer here! I'll allow a little bit of it here today if you have questions or comments for me, but the discussion box is for the webcomic, so after this page, please stay on topic as usual.

And, if you're curious - no, I'm probably not seeing the movie. I'm doing my best to be at peace with this situation, but that scene from the trailer still makes me angry, so I'm trying to avoid it. I don't watch a lot of movies anyway, so I don't feel I'm missing much. You guys have fun though if you want to see it.
