Dr. Nagano is one of the seasoned researchers at the laboratory and head of the physics department. Makoto's very mellow but not very charismatic, and hardly smiles. He prefers to get straight to the point in conversation, then to work. Others tend to think he looks angry or bored all the time, but he's mostly just trying to make it through the day.

Over the years, Makoto has lost a lot of his enthusiasm for the project. He sometimes questions why he even stays on board, but with certain rumors floating around about Yule and Vladimir's special "jobs," he usually discards the idea of leaving.

As his interest fades in the project, Dr. Willows has been picking up some of his slack. Makoto has a strong work ethic, and Willows isn't sure that he's even aware of how he's becoming more sloppy and disorganized.
